CHARACTER
Character Name:
Age: 16 in canon, 18 in game
Species: Human/Life Fiber hybrid. Life Fibers are parasitic alien life forms. In their natural form, they appear as glowing and sparkling red threads. However, they can take on the form of clothing. They’re somewhat similar to the symbiotes of the Marvel universe or the parasitic being Spawn from Image comics. Nui was grown artificially within a life fiber womb, and thus was thoroughly infused with them.
Canon: Kill La Kill
Canon Point: Episode 22, just after she stabs Ryuko.
Character Info: http://kill-la-kill.wikia.com/wiki/Nui_Harime

Personality: (Content warning for minor references to incest/sexual abuse)

Happily deranged is a good way to sum up Nui’s personality. Outwardly, she’s a very cheerful and perky girl. She’s often seen smiling and walking with a skip in her step. She chooses a cute, highly feminine and dainty aesthetic for herself, and speaks of “play” despite being in her teens rather than a child. Unfortunately, Nui’s idea of “play” is extremely violent and occasionally manipulative. She is the secondary antagonist within her canon, and is every bit as dangerous as she is cute.

Nui is an extrovert. She is energized by being around others, and is somewhat of a chatterbox. Even in battle, she makes conversation with people, and acts like it’s the most natural thing in the world to banter with one’s opponents. She prefers the company of others to being alone, although she acts independently rather than working with others more often than not. Nui is a free spirit, and even her creator, mother and boss Ragyo cannot completely control her. If she wants to visit with someone, then she will. She gets the tasks assigned to her done, and otherwise goes wherever she wants and does whatever she wants. She acts on a whim, deciding to visit and play with whoever happens to interest her the most at the time. She’s quite impulsive. Having regenerative powers makes Nui fairly unconcerned with the possibility of injuries or other consequences. She’s almost completely fearless, whether in battle or simply socially. She has moments of being overly familiar and touchy-feely with capable combatants. She’s highly confident in her abilities, to the point of arrogance. Certainly, much of her confidence can be justified - she is superhuman and far more clever than anyone would expect her to be, but she has underestimated opponents more than once and paid for it.

Nui was not socialized normally. Unlike her half-sisters, she did not attend school and hasn’t learned much empathy for others. She wasn’t even birthed normally. A fertilized egg was implanted into a womb crafted entirely with life fibers, so she was infused with them even in an embryonic state. Part of her is fundamentally not human, and the rest boils down to upbringing. Nui was created, not born. Her mother/creator Ragyo was thoroughly obsessed with life fibers and the power they granted. Nui was a successful experiment in unlocking their full potential, and that shaped Nui’s path from day one. Ragyo intended to take over the world using the power of the life fibers, and Nui was a worthy weapon to help that goal. Nui was favoured over her half-sisters, for better or worse, and this has shaped some of her identity and confidence in her abilities. The rest is simply being strong-willed enough to find her own purpose. Nui genuinely enjoys fashion, and was given the position of Grand Couturier within REVOCS despite her young age because of her talent (and her relation to the company president). If there is one person Nui is thoroughly loyal to and genuinely cares for, it is Ragyo. She cares for a thoroughly terrible and cruel person, and has even normalized incest. Although canon shows her half-sister Satsuki (who doesn’t even acknowledge being related to Nui) bearing the brunt of Ragyo’s sexual abuse, Nui comments on Ragyo’s skill with kissing at one point, which indicates that Nui has been on the receiving end as well, and hasn’t been socialized normally enough to know there’s anything wrong with being treated like that. She knows she’s the favourite, and her abnormal upbringing her made her unable to understand exactly how awful her childhood really was.

The combination of Nui’s upbringing, her superhuman abilities, and the alien source of said abilities has made her somewhat sociopathic. She is capable of love and loyalty for a select few, but to everyone else, she can be a horrible little monster when the mood strikes her. She delights in manipulating others and exploiting their emotional vulnerabilities. She gleefully admits to the protagonist Ryuko that she killed Ryuko’s father, all to antagonize her into going all out in a fight. When Ryuko is reluctant to fight at all because of the way she lost control in her first battle with Nui, Nui creates an entirely new identity for herself in order to get close to Ryuko and manipulate her into regaining her courage. She creates puppets who look exactly like humans to bully Shinjiro (her fake identity) - a brave but noncombatant boy who is speaking out for what he believes is right. She succeeds in getting Ryuko to fight her puppets to protect Shinjiro, and delights in how adorably predictable Ryuko was. She has a sadistic streak, and remarks to Ryuko’s father as she’s stabbing him with the weapon he created that it’s great that he gets to be killed by his own creation. While Nui enjoys a good fight, when she’s outmatched and/or injured, she drops her cheerful demeanour. She’s frantic, she’s angry, and she loses the ability to think clearly.

Abilities:
-Superhuman physical prowess. Nui possesses superhuman strength, speed, durability, reflexes and endurance. She’s shown dodging bullets, and being able to get up and fight again after being hit hard enough to slam her through multiple slabs of solid rock. Nui can be damaged more easily with fae magic and iron than she can with standard non-iron weapons.
-Regeneration. Nui can regenerate from wounds that would be life threatening for most people, and even from severed limbs. The only things she cannot heal from are severe wounds from weapons specially crafted to stop life fiber regeneration. Her recovery time is slower than normal when injured by either fae magic or iron.
-Dopplegangers. Nui can make copies of herself in an instant to fight for her. These dopplegangers are far weaker than the original Nui.
-Mental refitting. Using her life fibers, Nui can take control of a person and make them her puppet. This ability is often ineffective against fae and those touched by fae magic (ie. this will only ever affect low level NPCs)
-Infiltration and disguise. Nui can make an outer costume for herself and even alter her voice by manipulating the life fibers in her body. She can also convincingly make puppets seem like people. Her disguise abilities are limited by size (they must be close to her size) and she cannot completely hide her damaged eye. (She can make her costume’s hair cover the eye, but the face itself will still show a damaged eye) This even extended to creating fake student information in school records which deleted itself when she discarded her fake identity.
-Piloting skills. Nui knows how to pilot a helicopter capably.
-Master sewing skills.
-Fingerhooks on each pinky finger. They’re small and mainly useful for removing individual threads from clothing, including banshi (life fiber threads that hold together life fiber imbued clothing).

CARNIVAL
Soul Colour: Pink
Ideal Jobs: Couturier (combination of designer & tailor), Mercenary
Relevant Experience: Nui is the Grand Couturier for an international company called REVOCS that has cornered about 90% of the fashion market worldwide. She’s shown to be sufficiently skilled at sewing that she’s capable of quickly sewing using her mouth and manages to still do tidy, professional error-free work. She’s also a skilled combatant with superhuman abilities and talent in infiltration and disguise.

Carnival History:

Nui has been at the Carnival for two years and two weeks in total.

Initially, Nui’s contract was to repay a debt. She peeked in on a show without paying, got caught, and quickly discovered that she was outclassed when she tried to take on the Ringmaster. It was enough to earn Nui’s respect, and she was quick to offer up her skills as a couturier and a fighter to repay her debt. She followed the rules for the most part - bending them occasionally (such as killing interesting opponents from other worlds), but never outright breaking them (she didn’t skip out on her contract, didn’t try to kill anyone from the Carnival, etc.). After a year and a day with the Carnival, Nui liked it enough that she wanted to stay on and signed up for her next contract voluntarily. It wasn’t boring here, and she was mostly free to do what she liked, so long as she got her work done and didn’t break the three main rules. As time went on with the Carnival the fae instinct to own people began influencing her and crossed with her life fiber instincts. She began to increasingly think of anyone who wore clothes she made as hers (even if they were also the Ringmaster’s). They were her models.

Recently, she was sent on a long errand to retrieve some extravagent fabric. It took longer than anticipated, and as such, she missed out on the entire incident with the Prince.

CONTRACT #1
Existing Contract: Pay off her debt for peeking in on a show
Details: Nui worked as a couturier and mercenary to repay her initial debt.

CONTRACT #2
Existing Contract: Sight (both mundane and magical) in her damaged eye
Details: Since she wasn’t specific about what “magical sight” entailed, she gained the ability to see through most glamours and occasionally she could catch glimpses of the past or future if she looked at water under the moonlight (player’s note: I will always discuss what Nui sees with players before using this ability and have written up a permissions post)

CONTRACT #3
Existing Contract: (freshly signed) The Ringmaster’s help in becoming a multiversally famous couturier.
Details: Nui wants to make clothing for not only the Carnival, but for the multiverse as a whole. This entails her being given access to a lot of extra fabric, and having permission to promote her wares to wherever the Carnival goes, so long as she continues to complete all her assigned work for the Carnival first.

Current Changes:
-Rare change: magical sight, gained through her second contract with the Ringmaster
-Uncommon changes: Shadows and reflections that move independently, sparkly trail
-Common changes: Bioluminescent stripes (on her arms), patches of pink gemstones on her shoulders, pink tinted blood, long & pointed ears
-Mental changes: Desire to own people and belief that anyone who wears her designs is at least partially owned by her
